After months of delays, construction of the much-awaited underpass at Ajni Bridge Square is finally set to begin within a week. The project, taken up by the Public Works Department (PWD), aims to ease congestion at one of Nagpur’s busiest junctions, though commuters should brace for some inconvenience during the construction phase.
The partnership between the Technology Development Board (TDB) and Ramuka Global Eco Work Pvt Ltd will enable the commercial rollout of ECOFIX, a ready-to-use pothole repair mix developed by CSIR–CRRI. Made from processed iron and steel slag, the material can be applied even in wet or waterlogged conditions, helping authorities carry out faster repairs with minimal traffic disruption.
The ₹35-crore project will allow vehicles coming from Ajni Railway Station to pass through the underpass towards the FCI side, while the existing road over the bridge will remain as it is. It also includes widening the Ajni Bridge–TB Ward Square stretch into a six-lane road, linking smoothly with the upcoming Ajni twin cable-stayed bridges. Once completed, the upgrade is expected to make daily travel between South and Central Nagpur smoother and faster.
