Union Minister Piyush Goyal has pitched for incentives and concessions to promote precast and steel construction methods as a way to curb dust pollution caused by conventional building activities. Speaking at a meeting of businessmen and housing society representatives, Goyal said such construction practices are widely used globally and help significantly reduce on-site pollution.
Highlighting the issue of dust generated by reinforced concrete (RC) construction, the minister said RC mixers should be moved out of city limits. He claimed to have already removed several such mixers from his parliamentary constituency in North Mumbai. While acknowledging that steel and precast structures may be slightly more expensive, Goyal said the long-term environmental benefits justify policy support and incentives.
He suggested that instead of imposing strict mandates, authorities should work towards building consensus among developers to voluntarily adopt cleaner construction methods.
