The Muzaffarpur Metro Project is set to bring a major upgrade to the city’s transportation network. With two metro corridors covering a total distance of 21.5 km and 22 stations, the project aims to enhance urban mobility and reduce traffic congestion. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) is expected to be finalized by March 2025, marking a significant milestone in its development.

The metro will consist of two corridors: the first, spanning 13.85 km from Harpur Bakhri to Ramdayalu Nagar with 13 stations, and the second, covering 7.4 km from SKMCH to Muzaffarpur Railway Station with 9 stations. The project, estimated to cost Rs 5,559 crore, is expected to be funded through state and central government contributions, along with potential private investments.

Designed to benefit nearly 60% of daily commuters, the metro will ease congestion on key highways, reduce travel time, and promote eco-friendly transit. The initiative is also expected to stimulate economic growth by attracting investments and creating jobs. While the project presents challenges such as funding and coordination, its successful execution will be a step toward modernizing Muzaffarpur’s infrastructure.
