Prayagraj Airport has undergone significant modernisation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, transforming it into a world-class gateway ahead of Mahakumbh 2025. The expansion has increased the terminal area from 6,700 sq. m. to 25,500 sq. m., enhancing passenger capacity and operational efficiency. Parking capacity has tripled, check-in counters have risen from 8 to 42, and security infrastructure has been upgraded with additional screening machines and metal detectors. Night flights have been introduced for the first time in over a century, allowing round-the-clock operations.
Connectivity has been significantly improved to accommodate the surge of devotees. Direct flights have increased to 132, providing around 80,000 monthly seats. Prayagraj is now directly linked to 17 cities and indirectly to 26, with airlines such as Akasa Air and SpiceJet adding thousands of seats. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has directed airlines to ensure sufficient capacity during peak festival days, particularly for Shahi Snan dates.
Enhanced passenger services now include meet-and-greet assistance for differently abled travelers, prepaid taxi counters, and a city bus service. Medical facilities have also been strengthened with ambulance and air ambulance services. Prayagraj Airport’s transformation reflects the government’s commitment to providing world-class infrastructure and seamless connectivity, ensuring a smooth travel experience for Mahakumbh pilgrims.
