Mahindra has inaugurated its state-of-the-art electric vehicle (EV) and battery manufacturing facility at Chakan, marking a key milestone in its commitment to sustainability and innovation. Strategically located within Mahindra’s Chakan hub, the facility operates entirely on renewable energy and is water-positive, showcasing the company’s dedication to eco-friendly practices.
As part of its Rs 160 billion investment plan for FY22–FY27, Mahindra has earmarked Rs 45 billion for this cutting-edge facility. It focuses on powertrain development, advanced manufacturing technologies, and software integration to deliver world-class EVs and components.
The 88,000 square-meter facility boasts a fully automated Press Shop, AI-powered Body Shop, and a robotic Paint Shop. Over 500 robots, monitored via IoT-based systems, ensure precision and efficiency in operations. Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) further enhance material handling, prioritizing safety and productivity.
The facility also houses an advanced battery assembly line that uses patented techniques to enhance safety and performance. Rigorous testing protocols include IP67 ingress protection and real-time anomaly monitoring, ensuring reliable battery performance.
Mahindra is committed to workforce inclusivity, with a target of achieving a 25% gender diversity ratio. It also emphasizes skill development to prepare its employees for future technological advancements.
