The South Central Railway (SCR) has initiated land acquisition for the Amaravati railway line project, which will improve connectivity to Andhra Pradesh’s capital. The 57-kilometre line will link Yerrupalem in Khammam district to Nambur station in Guntur, passing through Amaravati. Approved by the Union Cabinet with an estimated cost of Rs 22.45 billion, the project aims to enhance access to major cities including Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, and Nagpur, while also improving links to Delhi and Mumbai. It will also feature a 3.2-kilometre bridge over the Krishna River.
SCR has moved swiftly to acquire land for the project, with about 80% of the land already owned by the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA). The remaining land in Khammam and NTR districts, about 60 acres, is being acquired under the Land Acquisition Act. Farmers in the affected areas have been given 30 days to submit objections.
The railway line will feature nine stations between Yerrupalem and Nambur, offering multiple access points along the route. Additionally, a multi-modal cargo hub is planned at Paritala in NTR district, which will serve as a crucial freight station.
The Andhra Pradesh government has also proposed developing Amaravati station as a model railway station and has requested approximately 1,500 acres for its development.
