Jindal India Ltd, part of the B.C. Jindal Group, has announced a substantial investment of over ₹1,500 crore to expand its steel production capacity by 60%. This expansion, scheduled to begin in FY’25 and complete by FY’26, will enhance capacity by 0.6 million metric tons, with a focus on coated flat products, pipes, and crash barriers.
The new production lines will be established at Jindal’s Ranihati facility in Howrah, West Bengal, utilizing equipment from John Cockerill and Esmech Equipment (SMS Group). This strategic move will enable Jindal India to penetrate new market segments, including solar energy and home appliances, while also supporting import substitution efforts.
A company spokesperson highlighted the alignment of this expansion with national infrastructure development goals, aiming to bolster Jindal’s presence in the steel industry and contribute to India’s vision of a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047. With two advanced facilities in West Bengal and a global export footprint, Jindal India offers a diverse range of products, including sheets, pipes, and aluminium foil. This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing infrastructure and highway safety in India.
