The Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (APTEL) has granted a 289-day extension to the POWERGRID Southern Interconnector Transmission System for completing its transmission project. This decision comes in recognition of delays caused by force majeure events. As a result, the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission has been instructed to issue a revised order that incorporates the appellate authority’s findings. The commission has two months to finalize this process.
In a separate ruling, the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) has approved a petition from the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation (UPPCL) to procure 2,000 MW of solar power. This initiative is part of the government’s broader objective to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil-based installed power capacity by 2030.
The tender documents for this solar power procurement have been prepared following the Ministry of Power’s guidelines for tariff-based competitive bidding. The projects are set to be executed on a build, own, operate, and maintain (BOOM) basis with a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Additionally, the Uttar Pradesh Solar Policy 2022 will apply to these projects, offering various benefits to developers.
