Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has announced significant progress on the Colaba to Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) Metro 3 line, with the second phase now 86% complete. This development brings a hopeful outlook for Mumbai residents as the metro project advances.
The 33.5-km Metro 3 line will include a total of 27 stations, with the first phase extending from Aarey to BKC. This segment, featuring 10 stations, is set to open once the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) conducts an inspection and grants certification. The MMRC has already completed a review with the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) team.
While civil works for both phases have reached an impressive 99.3% completion, overall progress stands at 92.2%. However, delays in security checks have pushed back the expected operational date for the first phase. Initially slated for May, the launch will now be delayed, requiring Mumbaikars to wait a bit longer for the new metro services.
Despite these delays, the accelerated pace of the second phase signifies positive progress for the metro project, which aims to enhance Mumbai’s public transportation infrastructure.
