Pantnagar Airport, located in Udham Singh Nagar district, is undergoing significant expansion to facilitate international flight operations. The expansion initiative includes the acquisition of 804 acres of land, sourced from various departments including G.B. Pant Agricultural University. This strategic move aims not only to enhance the airport’s capacity but also to stimulate tourism and generate employment opportunities for local residents.
According to Monika Dembla, Director of Pantnagar Airport, 524.7 acres of the acquired land have already been registered under the civil aviation department. However, the registration process for the remaining 233.2 acres is still pending and expected to be completed within the next four months. This phased acquisition and registration process is crucial for advancing the airport’s development plans.
In addition to expanding its physical infrastructure, plans are underway to establish an aero city adjacent to the airport. This aero city project is designed to offer state-of-the-art facilities catering to the needs of passengers, entrepreneurs, and tourists. A recent high-level meeting chaired by the chief secretary of Uttarakhand brought together officials from various departments, including civil aviation, PWD, and SIDCUL Pantnagar, to strategize and coordinate efforts for the aero city’s construction.
The Uttarakhand government will oversee the implementation of the aero city project, with directives issued to the aviation department secretary to initiate necessary actions. This comprehensive approach underscores the region’s commitment to modernizing its aviation infrastructure, enhancing connectivity, and positioning Pantnagar as a key hub for international air travel in the near future.
