The foundation stone for Kalaignar Memorial Library in Madurai was laid by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin. The structure will be eight storeys, and is 2.04 lakh sq ft. It is expected to be completed in 12 months. The land of 2.70 acre for the library is located at New Natham Road. The library would be the largest in the southern districts which will be built at a cost of Rs 99 crore. For purchasing books for the library such as hard copies, soft copies and online magazines Rs 10 crore has been assigned while Rs 5 crore has been allocated for buying of technical equipment. A 3D image was issued revealing the options of library together with it eight floors, elevators, reading areas, audio visual rooms for the blind and deaf folks. The library is alleged to be equipped to serve all sections of society together with academicians, students, analysis students, youth, youngsters and people getting ready for competitive examinations. The bottom floor of the library can have parking facilities.
