West Bengal is set to receive steel sector investments worth ₹8,000 crore over the next five years, strengthening its position as an emerging industrial hub in eastern India. The announcement was made during the Bigmint India Ferrous Week, highlighting the state’s growing appeal for large-scale steel projects.
Shakambhari Group revealed plans to invest ₹5,000 crore in establishing a new integrated steel plant in Purulia, with operations expected to commence by 2030–31. The proposed facility is aimed at catering to both domestic and export markets, boosting production capacity and generating significant employment opportunities in the region.
Complementing this investment, Adukia Industries has committed ₹3,000 crore to expand its existing steel unit in Purulia. The company’s focus will be on scaling up output, improving efficiency, and adopting advanced technologies to enhance competitiveness. Together, the two projects are anticipated to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs while accelerating industrial development in the district.
Industry observers believe these investments will contribute significantly to the state’s economy by fostering downstream industries such as construction, fabrication, and logistics. The projects are also expected to encourage ancillary businesses, supporting local entrepreneurship and supply chain growth.
Officials emphasised that the upcoming integrated steel plant and expanded unit will play a vital role in meeting India’s rising steel demand, particularly in infrastructure and manufacturing. The initiatives further align with the country’s broader industrialisation drive, which seeks to strengthen domestic production and reduce dependence on imports.
The twin investments underline the confidence of private players in West Bengal’s industrial policies and infrastructure support, positioning the state as a key growth centre for the steel sector in eastern India.
