Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is set to open its doors on April 17, 2025, with commercial operations beginning in May. Domestic and cargo flights will start mid-May, while international services are expected by July, as confirmed by Arun Bansal, CEO of Adani Airport Holdings Ltd. A greenfield project, NMIA boasts modern features, including biometrics and seamless terminal connectivity.

The airport’s phase-1 terminal has a capacity of 20 million passengers annually (ppa), on par with airports like Chennai and Kolkata. Initially, it will accommodate 10-12 million ppa, with an estimated 8-9 million domestic and 2-3 million international passengers. By 2026, the capacity will increase to 20 million, and by 2028, Terminal 2 will handle 30 million ppa.

NMIA’s state-of-the-art facilities and expanded capacity aim to reduce congestion at Mumbai Airport, which currently operates with a single runway. The project is a milestone in enhancing regional and international connectivity for the Mumbai metropolitan region.
