Bullet Train Spans 45m Viaduct Over Kalupur Flyover

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project has completed launching a 45-metre-long viaduct segment over the Kalupur flyover, a Railway Over Bridge (ROB) on the Sabarmati-Mumbai main line (Western Railways) in Ahmedabad district. According to an official release, the viaduct runs parallel to the existing railway line, with the launch over the flyover finalised on Monday using the Span-by-Span (SBS) method. The bridge features a 45-metre span over the flyover, a 19.5-metre viaduct from ground to rail level, 19 segments, and weighs 1,200 tonnes. The Kalupur flyover is a busy two-lane route vital for connecting Shahibaug, Asarwa, and Kalupur, serving thousands of commuters daily. The span erection was carefully planned and conducted under a controlled night block schedule. Entry and exit points within the work zone were fully closed between midnight and 6am, with normal traffic resuming beneath the flyover during daylight hours.

Permissions for night traffic blocks were secured from the Ahmedabad Traffic Department from May 22 to 25, 2026. Within this timeframe, key activities including auto-launching, segment transportation, span erection, dry matching, and gluing were successfully completed over three nights. To minimise public inconvenience, safety and traffic management measures were implemented, including barricading, traffic diversion signage, advance public information on route diversions, deployment of traffic marshals on day and night shifts, and adequate lighting during night operations.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor crosses 31 points in Ahmedabad district, including eight Indian Railways crossings, road flyovers, underpasses, 16 canal crossings, a bridge over the Sabarmati River, and six steel bridges. Work on 23 crossings has been completed to date.
