MMRC Floats GPR Survey Tender as Groundwork Begins for ₹23,487 Crore Mumbai Metro Line 11

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation has initiated preparatory work for the proposed 6.9-kilometre underground extension of Mumbai Metro Line 11 from Wadala to Bandra Terminus via Dharavi, floating a tender for Ground Penetration Radar-based utility surveys to map underground infrastructure up to five metres deep before civil construction begins. The selected agency will identify water pipelines, drainage lines, electricity cables, and telecom ducts, coordinating with civic bodies to submit a final report within one month of appointment.

The extension was cleared after the Maharashtra government directed MMRC in March to redesign the corridor through Dharavi, one of Mumbai’s most densely populated urban zones, to create direct connectivity to Bandra Terminus. The larger Metro Line 11 corridor will eventually connect Wadala to the Gateway of India via Nagpada and Crawford Market, strengthening east-west and north-south public transport across central and south Mumbai.

The Maharashtra government has pegged the initial 16.5-kilometre Metro 11 project at ₹23,487 crore in the 2026–27 state budget. Funding will be drawn from the BMC (₹2,411 crore), Mumbai Port Authority (₹804 crore), state and central governments (₹3,137 crore each), and over ₹12,000 crore through institutional loans.
