Construction of the JSW Rayalaseema Steel Plant at Sunnapurallapalli in Jammalamadugu constituency is set to commence within three weeks, marking the realisation of a long-pending industrial ambition for the Kadapa region. The first phase carries a financial outlay of ₹4,500 crore, targeting 1,000 direct jobs and an initial production capacity, with the second phase bringing an additional ₹11,850 crore investment to generate 1,500 more jobs, bringing total employment potential to 2,500 and cumulative capacity to 2 MTPA.
The state has put in place the full infrastructure stack: a 400 kV double-circuit transmission line from Jammalamadugu substation supporting a 268 MW power requirement, 2 TMC ft of assured water supply from Gandikota reservoir, a four-lane road covering 12 kilometres from NH 67 to the site, and a dedicated 12-kilometre railway spur from Muddanur station. Environmental clearance has also been issued.
The project carries particular historical weight, the site has witnessed four foundation stone ceremonies across successive political regimes since 2007, making the imminent construction start a decisive break from decades of stalled momentum.
