Priya Ranjan Takes Charge as Director of Bokaro Steel Plant

Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL), one of the flagship units of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), has welcomed Priya Ranjan as its new Director-in-Charge. His appointment is seen as a strategic move aimed at strengthening leadership at one of the country’s most important steel facilities.

Ranjan, who hails from Jharkhand, carries with him a strong professional background and deep knowledge of steel operations. An alumnus of BIT Sindri, he has served in several critical roles across SAIL, most recently as Executive Director (Operations) with responsibilities spanning mines, logistics and plant operations. His extensive exposure to core areas of production and resource management is expected to provide valuable direction to BSL’s future growth.

Industry observers note that his leadership comes at a crucial juncture for BSL, which is pursuing modernisation projects to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen production capacities and align with global standards in sustainability. With the Indian steel sector witnessing rapid expansion and rising international competitiveness, his focus is likely to be on innovation, cost optimisation and integration of environmentally responsible practices.

BSL, located in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district, has long played a vital role in India’s steel output, supplying a diverse range of flat products used in infrastructure, construction, automobiles and industrial applications. The plant’s continued modernisation and capacity expansion have made it a key contributor to both domestic growth and exports.

Ranjan’s appointment is expected to boost confidence among stakeholders, employees and industry partners alike. His technical expertise, coupled with his familiarity with the local context, positions him to lead BSL into its next phase of transformation while reinforcing its role in supporting India’s broader infrastructure and industrial development.
