MIDC Begins Land Acquisition for JSW Group’s 25 MTPA Steel Plant in Maharashtra

The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has started acquiring approximately 3,500 acres of land in Wadsa taluka, Gadchiroli district, for the JSW Group’s proposed 25 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) steel plant. Once completed, the project is expected to be the world’s largest integrated steel facility, marking a major milestone in India’s steel manufacturing capabilities.

The land acquisition process, currently underway, is a crucial first step toward establishing the mega project. The upcoming facility is poised to significantly boost regional infrastructure development, generate large-scale employment, and enhance steel production capacity to meet India’s growing domestic and export demand.

Industry analysts believe the JSW project will transform Gadchiroli into a strategic steel hub, attracting ancillary industries, logistics infrastructure, and urban development in the surrounding areas. The project aligns with India’s ambitions to increase its steelmaking capacity in line with infrastructure growth, energy transition requirements, and manufacturing expansion.

Once operational, the plant will have the potential to position India as a global leader in integrated steel production, leveraging economies of scale and advanced technologies. The facility is also expected to drive foreign and domestic investments in the region, contributing to Maharashtra’s industrial growth story.

The JSW Group, led by industrialist Sajjan Jindal, is among India’s largest steel producers and has been expanding aggressively to meet the rising demand for high-quality steel in construction, automobiles, and renewable energy sectors.

This landmark project is seen as a game-changer for the Indian steel industry, supporting the country’s goal of reaching 300 MTPA steelmaking capacity by 2030 under the National Steel Policy.
