Sify Technologies, through its subsidiary, has secured approval from the Andhra Pradesh State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) to develop a major data centre facility in Visakhapatnam. The project, valued at ₹16,466 crore, forms the largest share of a total ₹20,216 crore cleared across four companies by the SIPB. The ambitious project is expected to generate substantial employment and position Andhra Pradesh as a hub for next-generation digital infrastructure.
The proposed data centre campus will support advanced cloud services, AI readiness, and high-density computing-crucial components for India’s evolving digital economy. The facility is planned in line with Sify’s national strategy of expanding Tier III and Tier IV data centres to meet rising enterprise demand for secure and scalable storage solutions. With its location in Visakhapatnam, the project is expected to serve industries in IT, finance, e-commerce, and government services across eastern and southern India.
While such infrastructure projects typically involve some use of structural steel for components like server racks, cable trays, and support frames, there is no direct indication of significant steel consumption or supply tie-ups in official project documents or press coverage. The initiative is mainly positioned as a cornerstone of Andhra Pradesh’s digital and economic transformation rather than an industrial or steel-intensive development.
The announcement comes at a time when the state government is emphasising future-ready urban planning and smart infrastructure in cities like Vizag. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has called for integrated master plans to support these large-scale investments and ensure alignment with the state’s long-term growth goals.
