India Rolls Out Green Energy Feeders to Power Export Units and Data Centres

 In a significant move toward achieving its clean energy goals, the Government of India is implementing a nationwide network of green energy feeders to provide dedicated, sustainable power to large-scale export-oriented industrial units and data centres. This initiative is part of the country’s broader push to transition towards a low-carbon economy and support the rising energy demands of high-growth sectors.

According to a report, these green feeders will primarily source power from renewable energy projects, ensuring that energy-intensive facilities such as data centres-which are projected to expand rapidly in the coming years-receive uninterrupted and environmentally responsible electricity. Export hubs, especially in textiles, electronics, and manufacturing clusters, are also being prioritised under the plan.

While the focus of the policy is on renewable power distribution, the rollout will have a significant steel-intensive footprint. Building the supporting infrastructure-such as transmission towers, high-voltage pylons, solar module supports, power poles, and data-centre buildings-will require substantial quantities of structural and fabricated steel. The use of steel will be critical in ensuring long-term durability, fast-track execution, and modular scalability of these installations.

This infrastructure shift is expected to generate fresh demand for domestic steel manufacturers, particularly those supplying galvanised steel, transmission tower sections, and fabricated steel frames. The program also aligns with India’s Make in India and Digital India missions, reinforcing the strategic convergence of sustainable energy and industrial development.

With this green energy initiative, India is not only accelerating its climate goals but also creating a ripple effect across sectors like steel, logistics, and real estate—setting the foundation for a resilient, future-ready industrial ecosystem.
