SAIL Organises Defence Conclave in Durgapur to Strengthen Steel Supply Chain for Strategic Sectors

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) recently hosted a high-level Defense Customer Conclave 2025 at its Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP), aiming to reinforce its role as a reliable supplier of steel for India’s growing defense manufacturing sector. The event brought together key stakeholders from the Defense Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), armed forces, and allied industries.

Held under the banner of Atmanirbhar Bharat, the conclave focused on aligning SAIL’s product offerings with the evolving needs of India’s defense and strategic infrastructure. Senior officials from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), and other defense entities participated in discussions around enhancing steel grades, supply chain resilience, and quality assurance.

Speaking at the event, SAIL officials highlighted the company’s capability to supply indigenous, high-grade alloy and specialty steel required for submarines, missiles, aircraft, and armored vehicles. The Durgapur plant, known for its production of advanced defense-grade steel, plays a key role in supporting India’s self-reliance in defense production.

The conclave also featured technical sessions and exhibitions showcasing SAIL’s R&D capabilities, customized products, and track record of collaboration with India’s defense ecosystem. The steelmaker reaffirmed its commitment to ramping up capacity and diversifying its product range to meet future strategic requirements.

This initiative is seen as a step forward in consolidating the government’s push for indigenous defense manufacturing and reducing reliance on imports. With India targeting a USD 25 billion defense manufacturing ecosystem by 2025, SAIL’s proactive engagement with defense stakeholders is expected to play a pivotal role.
