AM/NS India Supplies Over 32,000 MT of Steel for India’s Iconic Rail Bridges

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has made a significant contribution to India’s infrastructure landscape by supplying over 32,000 metric tonnes (MT) of steel for two of the country’s most ambitious rail engineering projects—the Chenab Bridge and the Anji Khad Bridge in Jammu & Kashmir.

The Chenab Bridge, now the world’s highest railway arch bridge, stands 359 metres above the riverbed and is part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. AM/NS India supplied nearly 25,000 MT of specialised structural steel for this iconic structure, engineered to withstand extreme weather and seismic activity in the Himalayan region. The bridge is a critical step in connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India via rail.

In addition, the company provided around 7,000 MT of steel for the Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge. Located in a challenging terrain with steep slopes and deep gorges, the Anji Khad project demanded precision fabrication and high-strength steel components to ensure durability and safety.

These two engineering marvels not only showcase India’s growing prowess in infrastructure development but also highlight the essential role of domestic steelmakers like AM/NS India in nation-building. The steel supplied for both projects was manufactured at the company’s state-of-the-art Hazira plant in Gujarat and transported to the project sites under stringent logistical and quality protocols.

Through its contribution, AM/NS India has reinforced its position as a preferred supplier for high-performance steel in critical infrastructure projects. The company continues to support India’s vision of enhancing regional connectivity and boosting industrial self-reliance.
