The Yohoo Museum, designed by Aedas, is an architectural masterpiece located in Hangzhou, China. Completed in 2024, this cultural landmark is situated within the scenic Yohoo Park and serves as a pioneering art destination that blends tradition with modernity. Spanning an area of 5,356 sq m, the museum’s design pays homage to Chinese culture, drawing inspiration from jade—a material revered for its nobility and significance in ancient rituals.

The museum’s design concept is embodied in its double-ring structure, which symbolically represents two interlocking jade rings. This design reflects a harmonious connection between the culture of Liangzhu and the Grand Canal, linking the ancient with the modern. The structure features a dynamic, cohesive form achieved through a singular steel frame. Its edges appear to defy gravity by gently raising off the ground without visible support, while the smooth contours enclose two public courtyards. At the heart of the museum lies a circular light well, symbolising the connection between heaven and earth and creating a serene, ethereal ambience.

The facade of the Yohoo Museum extends horizontally along the building’s form, blending vertical and horizontal framing to achieve a naturally flowing curvature. On the south side, the main entrance is adorned with multilayer laminated ‘emerald glass,’ which enhances the spatial experience with its bright and even illumination. Meanwhile, the north side features large transparent glass panels, offering panoramic views of the surrounding scenery. These glass elements, resembling the smooth texture of jade, create a seamless interplay between opacity and transparency, bridging the exterior and interior spaces while echoing the warmth and elegance of jade.

Inside, the translucent glass panels allow sunlight to filter through, creating a soft and bright interplay of light and shadow that enhances the visitor experience. Scenic trails lead visitors to the museum entrances, offering access to an island where they can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding natural beauty.
