Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID) has announced tenders for the supply and installation of 7 MW rooftop solar systems on its buildings under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. The project covers the northern and western regions of India, promoting clean energy adoption and supporting the government’s vision for sustainable power.

The northern region will host 4 MW of capacity, spanning Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana. Bidders must submit proposals by March 3, 2025. Meanwhile, the western region will accommodate 3 MW across Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Maharashtra, Goa, and Chhattisgarh, with bids due by March 4, 2025. A bid security of Rs 1 million is required for each region. Exempt bidders must provide 2% of the contract value as performance security, while others will have their bid security converted.

The project scope includes the supply, installation, and commissioning of grid-connected rooftop solar systems with net metering or reverse power flow control, adhering to state regulations. Installations are expected to be completed within six months from the work order, with successful bidders also managing five years of comprehensive maintenance.

Eligible bidders must have completed at least 300 kW of grid-connected solar projects in the past three years or be recognized solar module manufacturers. Distributors and dealers with a minimum of 1 MW of supply experience can also participate. Financial requirements include an average turnover of Rs 60 million over the best three of the last five years, liquid assets or credit access of Rs 10 million, and a positive net worth for the past three years. Recently, POWERGRID also floated bids for a 1.07 MW rooftop solar project at the National Institute of Technology Durgapur in West Bengal, further expanding its solar initiatives.
