PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss has criticized the DMK government for its handling of the proposed greenfield airport at Parandur, accusing it of shifting blame to the previous AIADMK administration after initially taking credit for the project. He noted that while the AIADMK government identified the site in 2020, the DMK later claimed responsibility for the decision, only to retract amid public opposition in Parandur. He alleged these actions were attempts to pacify local residents.
Ramadoss highlighted that the PMK has been advocating for a new airport in Chennai for two decades, stressing the need to address the overburdened capacity of the existing airport. However, he urged the government to avoid selecting farmland for the project and instead consider over 5,000 acres of uncultivated government land available in Thiruporur. He also recalled that Thiruporur was initially shortlisted along with Pattalam, Parandur, and Pannur, but was dismissed due to its proximity to the Kalpakkam nuclear power plant and Tambaram Air Force station.
Arguing that modern technology can address such challenges, Ramadoss questioned why the government remains committed to Parandur despite a naval station being located nearby. He reiterated his appeal to shift the airport project to Thiruporur, citing it as a more suitable and sustainable alternative.
