The Kanpur Metro is set for a significant expansion, extending its reach from IIT Kanpur to Kanpur Central Railway Station, adding 14 stations across a 15 km stretch. This development includes five underground stations, improving connectivity and offering a faster commute. The journey from IIT Kanpur to Kanpur Central will take just 25 minutes, enhancing the efficiency of urban transport.
A major infrastructure milestone has been the installation of a 750-volt DC third rail system along the tracks between Motijheel and Kanpur Central, replacing the conventional Over Head Equipment (OHE) system. This new system improves maintenance efficiency and eliminates visible electric wires, contributing to the metro’s aesthetic appeal.
Additionally, the construction of tracks over a 1500-meter stretch from Nayaganj to Kanpur Central has been completed, with signaling and telecommunications systems to be installed soon. These updates underscore the commitment to modernizing Kanpur’s infrastructure and preparing it for a fully functional metro system.
