The trial runs for the Green Line Metro extension have officially started, with signal testing underway on the 3.14-kilometre segment between Nagasandra and Madavara. This extension will connect the existing line from Silk Board to Nagasandra with Madavara, near the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre. Initial trials are being conducted on the Reach-35 line with trains running at speeds between 3-35 km/h. Commercial operations are expected to begin by the end of October, with public use anticipated by the third week of September.
The Rs 298 crore extension project, which began in 2017 and faced delays due to land acquisition issues, saw most construction completed in 2023. Final inspection will be carried out by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety, with trial runs continuing throughout October. This extension will ease travel for those between Tumakuru and Bengaluru and nearby areas such as Nelamangala, Makali, and Madanayakanahalli, and is expected to reduce traffic congestion on Tumakuru Road.
During the ongoing signaling tests, adjustments to train schedules will occur. On August 20, 23, and 30, and September 6 and 11, services between Peenya Industry and Nagasandra Metro Stations will be suspended for the entire day. On August 24, the last train from Nagasandra to Peenya Industry will depart at 10 pm instead of 11:05 pm, and on August 25, the first service from Nagasandra will start at 7 am rather than 5 am. For the Peenya Industry to Silk Institute route, the last train on August 24 will depart at 11:12 pm, and on August 25, the first train will commence at 5 am. The Purple Line services will remain unaffected during this period, according to BMRCL officials.
