JSW Steel will increase the proportion of long products in its portfolio to cater to the demand from the infrastructure sector, stated JSW Steel’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Whole-Time Director, G S Rathore.
Rathore explained that in developing economies, a higher consumption of long steel occurs due to infrastructure construction. He mentioned, “Given our current situation, there will be a higher consumption of long steel.”
Long steel products find application in large-scale infrastructure projects and construction activities.
Rathore noted that historically, JSW’s focus on long products was lower due to the company’s initial concentration on cold rolling, galvanizing, and downstream products.
“Therefore, we aimed to acquire more hot rolled coil (HRC),” Rathore added. He shared these insights during a Steel & Metallurgy conference centered around long products.
