130-Metre, 2,900-Tonne Steel Bridge Span Launched in Bharuch for Bullet Train

A 130-metre steel bridge span weighing approximately 2,900 metric tonnes has been successfully launched near Tralsi village in Bharuch district, Gujarat, as part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail corridor. The structure crosses both active railway lines and the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, with installation carried out using specialised high-strength bolting systems and advanced launching technology designed to minimise disruption to live rail operations beneath.

The achievement marks a significant technical milestone on India’s first high-speed rail corridor, demonstrating the precision engineering required to position heavy steel infrastructure over operational freight and passenger networks simultaneously. The Western Dedicated Freight Corridor intersection adds particular complexity, given its strategic role in connecting Gujarat’s ports, manufacturing centres, and export logistics infrastructure.

Gujarat has emerged as the most advanced construction zone on the corridor, with a substantial share of planned steel bridge infrastructure already completed across the state. The accelerating pace of execution is being closely watched as a bellwether for India’s broader high-speed rail ambitions, where complex bridge launches, tunnel systems, and multi-agency coordination are setting new benchmarks for large-scale transport infrastructure delivery.
