Efforts to revive the long-pending Dhalbhumgarh airport project have picked up pace, with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation initiating fresh action to move the proposal forward. The Greenfield Airport, stalled since its foundation in 2019, is now seeing renewed coordination between authorities.
A technical team from the Airports Authority of India recently conducted a site inspection and held discussions with district officials to assess progress. Tree marking for relocation has been completed, a key step toward securing forest clearance, while land negotiations with local owners are ongoing.
Planned on a 240-acre site, the project will utilise an abandoned World War II airfield and feature a 2,179-metre runway, with provisions for future expansion. The airport will include a compact terminal and parking for ATR-72 aircraft.
Authorities have indicated that once tree transplantation begins and pending approvals from the environment ministry are cleared, construction activity will follow. The renewed push signals a step forward in enhancing regional air connectivity in eastern India.
