Regional high-speed commuting in the National Capital Region is poised for a major shift as the final section of the National Capital Region Transport Corporation Namo Bharat corridor prepares to open to passengers. The last stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and Modipuram is scheduled for inauguration in the last week of February, by Narendra Modi.
The 82 km Delhi – Meerut RRTS project is now in its concluding construction stage. Within Meerut, a 23 km intra-city metro network comprising 13 stations, including Meerut Central, Begum Pul and Shatabdinagar, will integrate directly with the rapid rail system, enabling seamless transfers between regional and local transit. Trains are designed to operate at speeds up to 120 kmph, cutting end-to-end travel time between Delhi and Meerut to roughly 55 minutes.
The corridor will significantly improve access to major nodes such as Anand Vihar and Kashmiri Gate while also strengthening connectivity with Ghaziabad. Services are planned from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm on weekdays and Saturdays, and from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm on Sundays, with trains arriving at intervals of approximately 5 to 15 minutes depending on demand.
Alongside the initial opening, authorities have proposed a second 13 km phase of the Meerut Metro to further expand urban coverage. Once fully operational, the integrated rapid rail and metro network is expected to ease road congestion, shorten commute times and support daily travel across the Delhi-Meerut growth corridor.
