The ongoing works on the Foothills Road project in the Niuland and Baghty sections were inspected by Nagaland Minister for Public Works Department (Roads & Bridges) G Kaito Aye in the presence of the Chief Engineer and senior departmental officials.
A press release from the Minister’s office said that a key component of the Niuland stretch is the construction of a 120-foot double-lane modular steel bridge, being taken up as part of the road upgradation works. The existing 8.6-km road in this section is being widened to two-lane standards up to the granular sub-base (GSB) layer, while a separate 7-km connectivity road to Rengmapani village is being blacktopped. The Minister expressed satisfaction with the quality of construction and field-level supervision in the Niuland section, the release said.
During the inspection, Aye noted that abutment works for all bridges have been completed and that modular bridge components have begun arriving at the site, with erection expected within February.
Acknowledging past delays due to monsoon and coordination issues, Aye noted that work had picked up recently. He directed contractors to deploy additional machinery and workforce to ensure timely completion by March 31, 2026, while technical staff provide necessary support without compromising quality.
The Minister described the Foothills Road as a transformative corridor that will enhance connectivity, boost economic growth, and bridge regional disparities in Nagaland.
