MahaMetro’s Longest CLC Bridge in Nagpur Phase-2 Underway

Construction is progressing on Maharashtra’s longest balanced cantilever (CLC) bridge, which is being built over the Vena River along the Hingna stretch as part of Nagpur Metro’s Phase-2 expansion. The project marks an important milestone in the development of modern urban transport infrastructure for the city.

The bridge will span a total length of 271 metres and rise approximately 16 metres above the existing road bridge. Its central span alone will measure about 120 metres, making it one of the most technically challenging structures in the metro project. Engineers highlight that the balanced cantilever design has been chosen to ensure stability and durability while overcoming the geographical constraints of the river crossing.

The cost of constructing this bridge is estimated at around ₹45 crore, while the overall budget for the Reach-3A corridor, which covers this stretch, stands at ₹378 crore. The investment underscores the government’s commitment to expanding public transport networks and improving connectivity in rapidly growing urban centres such as Nagpur.

The construction is expected to take around 18 months to complete, after which the bridge will become a crucial link in the city’s metro network. It is designed not only to improve urban mobility but also to reduce road congestion, offering a sustainable alternative for daily commuters.

This bridge is part of a broader push to enhance metro connectivity under Nagpur Metro Phase-2, which aims to provide efficient, eco-friendly transport options to residents while boosting the city’s infrastructure profile. Once complete, the structure is expected to stand as a landmark in Nagpur’s urban landscape and a testament to the engineering capabilities shaping India’s metro projects.
