Rail Doubling Approved for Bakhtiyarpur–Rajgir–Tilaiya Line in Bihar

The Ministry of Railways has approved the doubling of the 104-kilometre Bakhtiyarpur–Rajgir–Tilaiya railway line in Bihar. The project, sanctioned at a cost of ₹2,192 crore, aims to enhance both freight and passenger movement along this key corridor. This development is expected to significantly improve connectivity in the region and boost economic activity by facilitating smoother transportation of goods and commuters.

The Bakhtiyarpur–Rajgir–Tilaiya line serves as a vital link between several industrial, educational, and tourist centres in Bihar. Currently operating as a single-track route, the line faces capacity constraints during peak hours, which often leads to delays and limits the number of trains that can operate efficiently. The introduction of a second track will allow for simultaneous two-way train movement, thereby reducing congestion and improving operational reliability.

This rail doubling project is not only expected to enhance passenger experience by reducing travel time and improving punctuality but also to strengthen freight operations in the region. With a second track in place, heavier and more frequent freight trains can be accommodated, supporting the transport of raw materials and manufactured goods to and from Bihar’s industrial hubs.

The project will involve the construction of additional bridges, stations, and signalling systems to ensure seamless integration with the existing railway infrastructure. Once completed, the upgraded line will contribute to the broader goal of modernising the railway network in eastern India, fostering regional development and supporting the government’s focus on infrastructure enhancement.

The doubling of the Bakhtiyarpur–Rajgir–Tilaiya line marks a significant step forward in strengthening Bihar’s rail infrastructure. With improved efficiency, capacity, and safety, this project is set to benefit both passengers and freight operators while driving economic growth in the region.
