Steel Authority of India Limited is set to undertake a major ₹20,000 crore expansion of its Bokaro Steel Plant, marking a significant step in strengthening India’s steel manufacturing capacity.
The brownfield expansion will raise the plant’s output from about 5.25 million tonnes per annum to nearly 7.55 million tonnes, aligning with the country’s push to enhance domestic production and reduce import dependence.
Beyond capacity addition, the project is expected to generate around 2,500 direct jobs and close to 10,000 indirect employment opportunities, providing a strong boost to the regional economy. The expansion plan also includes infrastructure modernisation and the adoption of advanced technologies to improve operational efficiency and sustainability.
The move is likely to spur growth in ancillary industries and local infrastructure, further cementing Bokaro’s role as a key industrial hub while supporting India’s long-term steel and infrastructure ambitions.
