Adilabad Airport Project Advances with OLS Survey

The proposed Adilabad Airport has moved a step closer to execution, with a joint Obstacle Limitation Survey (OLS) scheduled for April 17 by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Ministry of Defence, and the state government.

According to Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu, the survey will play a critical role in finalising the runway orientation and securing defence clearances, following which the project’s master plan will be approved. A foundation-laying ceremony is expected to follow soon after.

The development gained momentum after high-level discussions involving G. Kishan Reddy, who highlighted the long-standing demand for a civilian airport in Adilabad, which already hosts a defence airstrip. Under the proposed model, the Ministry of Defence will develop the airfield, while the Airports Authority of India will construct the passenger terminal.

With Telangana currently reliant on a single operational airport in Hyderabad, the project is part of a broader push to decentralise aviation infrastructure. Officials note that Adilabad’s strategic location positions it as a potential hub for tourism and commerce, unlocking regional growth and connectivity.`
