AAI Charts ₹25,000 Cr Capex for Airport Expansion Push

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) marked its 31st Annual Day by outlining an ambitious roadmap for India’s aviation infrastructure, anchored by a ₹25,000 crore capital expenditure plan over the next five years.

Chairman Vipin Kumar highlighted AAI’s growing role in supporting the country’s rapidly expanding aviation sector, as both the largest airport operator and the sole provider of air navigation services. The authority also secured an ‘Excellent’ MoU rating for FY 2024–25, reflecting strong operational performance.

AAI reported significant progress on the ground, with new terminal buildings inaugurated across cities such as Patna, Tuticorin, and Purnea, alongside foundation stones laid for upcoming airports in Bihta and Kota-Bundi. Development works are also advancing across multiple regional hubs, signalling a wider push to strengthen connectivity.

On the passenger front, initiatives like Digi Yatra, free Wi-Fi, and UDAN Yatri Cafés are enhancing the travel experience, while a BIM-based digital monitoring platform is improving project execution.

Sustainability remains central to AAI’s strategy, with 94 airports now powered by green energy. Alongside a ₹15,000 crore investment in air navigation modernisation, the authority is aligning growth with efficiency, technology, and long-term resilience.
