Bokaro Steel Plant Secures BIS Approval for High-Strength Steel Grades

The Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) has received an extension of its certification from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), enabling the inclusion of four advanced steel grades under its existing licence.

The newly approved grades- ISC 440 LA, ISC 470 LA, ISC 510 LA and ISC 550 LA- expand the plant’s BIS certification, which earlier covered grades up to ISC 410. According to Manikant Dhan, Chief of Communication at BSL, the approval marks an important step in the standardisation of high-strength low alloy (HSLA) cold-rolled steel produced at the Bokaro facility.

By bringing these grades under the IS 513 (Part 2) framework, the products now meet nationally recognised quality standards. This certification strengthens their credibility and supports wider adoption across critical industrial sectors.

HSLA cold-rolled steel is widely used in applications requiring improved strength and weight efficiency, including automotive manufacturing, engineering equipment and structural components, where higher performance materials are increasingly in demand.
