Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and launched a series of infrastructure projects worth over ₹5,450 crore in Assam, with a strong focus on enhancing transport connectivity, urban mobility and strategic infrastructure across the Northeast.
A key highlight of the visit was the inauguration of the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu in Guwahati, a ₹3,000-crore bridge constructed across the Brahmaputra River to strengthen connectivity between Guwahati and North Guwahati. The new crossing is expected to reduce travel congestion, improve freight movement and support regional economic activity by providing a faster and more reliable transport link.
Expanding strategic infrastructure, the Prime Minister also inaugurated an Emergency Landing Facility along the Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh district, developed on a national highway at a cost of ₹100 crore. Designed to function as an alternative runway for defence and emergency operations, the facility enhances both disaster response capability and national security preparedness while showcasing multi-purpose highway engineering.
In addition to physical infrastructure, the visit included the virtual inauguration of the temporary campus of the Indian Institute of Management Guwahati and a National Data Centre for the North Eastern Region at Amingaon, reinforcing institutional and digital infrastructure development in the state.
Officials noted that these projects form part of a broader push to modernise connectivity networks across Assam, improve logistics efficiency and support long-term economic growth through integrated infrastructure development in the Northeast region.
