Frontier connectivity in the border pockets of the Rajouri district is being strengthened through a fresh set of road and bridge works executed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) under Project Sampark. The works focus on Qila Dharhal tehsil and nearby forward areas, targeting year-round access for remote settlements and border posts.
Key components include the erection of the Jambhir steel bridge and the development of the Balavenue–Lam–Dharal crossing, along with feeder links connecting to the Akhnoor-Poonch National Highway. The package also covers approach roads, modular bridge systems, and selective realignment of existing tracks to improve gradient and load-bearing capacity.
Specialised machinery and terrain-specific engineering methods were deployed to address climatic and topographical challenges in the Pir Panjal foothills, with coordination from district authorities and security agencies.
The upgraded links are expected to ease logistics, enable heavier vehicle movement, improve access to services, and support local trade, with built-in maintenance and inspection plans to ensure long-term operational reliability.
