Rajasthan Budget pushes sports infrastructure with new stadiums, complexes and academies

Sports infrastructure development has emerged as a key focus area in the Rajasthan government’s latest budget, with multiple allocations aimed at building new stadiums, indoor facilities and sports complexes across the state.

A provision of Rs 100 crore has been made to develop sports infrastructure at the proposed Maharana Pratap University. In addition, Rs 50 crore has been earmarked to organise Rajasthan Youth Games at panchayat, block, district and state levels, modelled on the Khelo India Youth Games framework.

The budget outlines the construction of new sports stadiums across several locations, including Dholpur, Masuda (Vijay Nagar), Bansur, Gangardtalai, Garhi (Banswara), Deeg Kaman, Akola, Chittorgarh, Ahor, Nawalgarh, Kakoda, Buhana, Hindaun, Etawah, Kota, Bhim, Shrimadhopur and Baran. Upgrade works are also planned at Prithviraj Chauhan Sports Stadium in Beawar and Chitrakoot Stadium in Jaipur.

On the indoor infrastructure front, a new indoor stadium will be built in Pokhran, along with a multipurpose indoor hall and synthetic athletics track in Dungarpur, and the redevelopment of the indoor stadium at RD Girls College in Bharatpur. Select gram panchayats with populations above 2,500 will get open gyms and playgrounds in a phased rollout.

The state will also develop world-class facilities for one sport each in Jaipur and Udaipur with support from RIICO and RSMM. Additional projects include a new handball academy in Lalgarh Jatan, a tribal sports academy in Nathdwara, synthetic tracks in Chittorgarh and Jaisalmer, and multi-sport facilities in Bharatpur. PPP and CSR models will be used to upgrade selected academies and stadiums.
