Seven new bullet train corridors planned for 2026

In a move to fast-track high-speed rail projects, the Railway Board has ordered an update of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for proposed corridors with current cost estimates to enable accurate financial viability assessments, following a high-level meeting at the Railway Board. The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has been directed to take immediate steps to ensure timely progress on projects, including the Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train corridor.

The government has also decided to standardise high-speed rail systems, set up dedicated field-level core teams and initiate pre-construction activities such as contract documentation. Planning for trained technical manpower has been emphasised, with progress to be reviewed periodically.

India aims to operate its first bullet train on a 100-km stretch by 2027. The Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor will span about 508 km across Gujarat, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Maharashtra, connecting key cities between Ahmedabad and Mumbai.
