Railways invests ₹1,200 crore in Nashik for Simhastha Kumbh Mela

Indian Railways is investing ₹1,200 crore to upgrade five stations in Nashik district, Devlali, Nashik Road, Odha, Kasbe-Sukene and Kherwadi (Niphad), ahead of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela. Divisional Railway Manager Punit Agrawal said the works include constructing new foot overbridges, widening and extending platforms, adding loop lines, installing automatic signalling, building new pitlines, and remodelling networks to reduce human intervention.

Special trains from Bhusawal and Mumbai will terminate at these stations, where pilgrims will be received in holding areas and handed over to state authorities for onward travel to Nashik and Trimbakeshwar. While some infrastructure is temporary for the Mela, most will remain for regular passenger services and future train operations, connecting Nashik and nearby stations to destinations across India.

“A large part of the infrastructure being created is here to stay, and some of it is temporary, which will be required to handle pilgrims during the Kumbh Mela,” said divisional railway manager Punit Agrawal. Construction is proceeding on a war footing to ensure completion before the event.
