Union budget allocates ₹517 Crore to Pune metros for expansions

Nirmala Sitharaman, in the Union Budget, announced the allocation of ₹517 Crore to the Pune metros for Network Expansion, significantly impacting the growth of Pune Transits. It aims to fast-track metro expansion across Pune as well as the Pimpri-Chinchwad area in the coming years.

A project that is drawing people’s attention is the Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro line project. It is expected to begin its operation in the march, reducing the travelling time between Hinjawadi and Shivajinagar from almost two hours to roughly 30 minutes. As confirmed by the officials, the trials on this stretch have been successfully done under the supervision of Dr Yogesh Mhase. The Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro route will consist of 23 stations and will be operated using 14 trainsets.

The authorities are also developing a double-decker transport system at the junction near University Chowk to manage traffic congestion. This is expected to separate the traffic vertically into the metro running at the top, while the local vehicles running at the ground simultaneously.

The Union Budget also shed light on Phase II of the Pune Metro expansion. Currently, two metro corridors are already operational across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
