Govt speeds up efforts for AMNS steel plant in Kendrapara: Minister

In a move aimed at boosting employment and economic activity, the State government is pushing forward plans to establish an integrated steel plant by ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AMNS) in Kendrapara, Industries, Skill Development and Technical Education Minister Sampad Chandra Swain said on Wednesday.

He has also mentioned about the steps taken to develop a riverine port (non-major) on the left bank of Mahanadi river at Akhadasali village under Mahakalapada block. A feasibility study for the project has already also been conducted.

Focussing on port-led industrialisation, port modernisation, connectivity enhancement, coastal community development along with coastal shipping and inland waterways, 53 projects worth approximately over Rs 54,000 crore have been identified in Odisha under the Sagarmala programme.

Mr. Swain said a jetty would be developed on the Baitarani river under National Waterway–14 (NW-14) to promote river cruise tourism around the Bhitarkanika forest. He added that river cruise routes are also being planned under NW-22 through the Birupa–Badi Genguti–Brahmani river system, connecting the Diamond Triangle of Ratnagiri, Udayagiri and Lalitgiri, and under NW-23 on the Budhabalanga river from Chandipur’s hidden beach to Balasore town.
