Suzlon Energy Limited has secured its first-ever wind power order from the ArcelorMittal Group, winning a 248.5 MW project that strengthens India’s push towards green steel manufacturing. The order has been awarded through ArcelorMittal’s renewable energy arm in India and will be executed in Bachau, Gujarat.
The project is part of a larger 550 MW hybrid renewable energy initiative developed to meet the captive power requirements of ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India. Under the contract, Suzlon will supply and install 79 S144 wind turbine generators, each with a rated capacity of 3.15 MW.
With this project, Suzlon further consolidates its leadership in Gujarat, where it has an installed wind capacity of around 4.5 GW. The latest order marks Suzlon’s fourth major project supporting steel sector decarbonisation within a year, taking its total green steel-linked renewable capacity to over 1,150 MW.
Industry leaders from both companies highlighted the growing strategic importance of clean energy in reducing the carbon footprint of steel production and enabling long-term sustainable growth.
