The Maharashtra Cabinet Infrastructure Committee has approved the ₹22,862 crore Metro Line 8, or the ‘Gold Line’, a high-speed corridor that will directly connect Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airports in just 30 minutes. Chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the decision marks a major step in strengthening regional and airport-led connectivity.
Spanning 35 km with 20 stations, the Gold Line will include a 9.25 km underground stretch from Mumbai Airport Terminal 2 to Ghatkopar East and a 24.63 km elevated section from Ghatkopar West to Navi Mumbai Airport Terminal 2. The project is expected to reduce the current travel time of around 90 minutes to one-third.
The Chief Minister has directed that land acquisition and statutory approvals be completed within six months, with construction to finish within three years thereafter.
Alongside the Metro project, the committee cleared key infrastructure initiatives, including the Nashik Ring Road for the upcoming Kumbh Mela and highway upgrades in Gadchiroli to support mineral transport and industrial growth.
