India is set to significantly upgrade its aviation infrastructure, with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) announcing a government investment of ₹150 billion by 2028 to modernise airport systems and air traffic control technology nationwide.
The programme will focus on enhancing core operational infrastructure, with priority given to next-generation air traffic management systems. Planned upgrades include advanced radar and surveillance systems, modern communication and navigation equipment, and digital platforms aimed at improving safety, efficiency and capacity across Indian airports.
One of the largest investments in the aviation sector in recent years, the initiative reflects the government’s intent to prepare airport infrastructure for sustained growth in passenger and cargo traffic. The modernisation drive is also expected to open up opportunities for domestic technology and electronics manufacturers, particularly companies engaged in aviation-grade systems and mission-critical electronics.
Aligned with India’s push for self-reliance in strategic infrastructure, the investment is expected to strengthen operational resilience, support future airport expansion and position India’s aviation ecosystem for the next phase of growth.
