Mumbai Metro 2B Shunya Bridge Nears Completion

Mumbai’s east–west transit corridor has reached a major milestone with the completion of the central pylon of the cable-stayed Shunya Bridge on Metro Line 2B. Located on the DN Nagar–Mandale stretch, the bridge is a defining structural element of the corridor and brings one of its most complex engineering components into the final construction phase.

Spanning around 130 metres across the Vakola Nalla, the bridge features a 40-metre-high central steel pylon supporting an 80-metre main span. Designed to minimise foundations within the drainage channel, the structure improves flood resilience while reducing long-term maintenance risks. Prefabricated steel elements were used to limit on-site disruption and enhance construction precision.

Beyond its engineering significance, the zero-inspired Shunya Bridge is envisioned as a visual and cultural landmark within the metro network. Once operational, Metro Line 2B is expected to ease pressure on roads and suburban rail while significantly improving east–west connectivity across Mumbai.
