The Delhi government has received 60 proposals from MLAs seeking the construction of footover bridges (FOBs) across the national capital to improve pedestrian safety and ease traffic congestion.
In a written reply during the Delhi Assembly’s winter session, the government informed that the proposals were submitted in response to a request made last year by Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Verma, who had asked MLAs to suggest local solutions to traffic bottlenecks. All 60 recommendations have now been forwarded to the concerned chief engineers for technical assessment.
Proposed locations include high-traffic and accident-prone stretches such as Azadpur Mandi Gate No. 5, Gazipur Road near Crown Plaza, Andheria Mod, Chhatarpur Metro Station near Harcharan Bagh, and the TB Hospital crossing, among others.
According to officials, the PWD will conduct joint site inspections with the Delhi Traffic Police at the suggested locations. Based on these assessments, the proposals will be placed before the department’s subway committee for further scrutiny and approval. The initiative is expected to strengthen last-mile pedestrian infrastructure across the city.
